goodbye, pride
I took a major fall on my bike tonight coming home from work. I didn't realize it was below freezing (it hadn't been earlier in the day), so what I thought was a damp surface I was making a sharp turn on was, in fact, a sheet of ice. I wish I could say that I had an intelligent thought as I fell. It was mostly "oh, shit." I was wearing a helmet, thankfully, so when my head struck the pavement it only hurt rather than exploded. There were plently of people around who ran over to see if I needed help. I lay there for a few seconds to see if any serious pain was going to sink in, from say, a broken bone or twisted neck. Nothing. I felt stupid, but fine. All in all, I came out with only scraped elbows, a bruised butt, a knock on the head, and wounded pride. Wear your helmets, kids!
Before that Brent, Melissa, and I made it to the Franklin Park Conservatory to see the new (to me) exhibit. It was a lot of fun.
