I might also be in Topology 3, and Number Theory. We'll see. I always take so long to decide.

I finally got into easytree.org. It only took forever.

on my own

I think I've come to the realization that I'll never be able to play music in a band again unless I do it myself. Write the music, the words, sing it myself, etc. I love Josh to death but he'll never commit to anything seriously enough for me. He has MUCH more musical ability than I do. But I'd rather make crappy music by myself than no music at all. Add recording my own album to the long list of things I plan to do before the summer is out. If I learn how to use a 4-track well enough, I'll try the Album In A Day project.

pay your penny, ride the pony

I saw Drive-By Truckers Thursday night at Little Brother's in the Short North. I wish I could have stayed for the whole show but it just wasn't happening. I had a huge headache, there was this infernal disco ball shining directly into my eyes no matter where I was, and I couldn't hear the lyrics. I'd see them again under different circumstances: I like their last record.

All the best to Gina and Neil in their new Stow home.

I work tons this week, classes start back up Monday, and I'm running farther than ever. Needless to say, this severely cuts into my leisure time.

My first race is less than a week away and I'm a little nervous. I know I can run 13 miles (and some change) by myself on the course I've made myself these last few months. I'm anxious that I'll run differently with other people next to me or watching and cheering. I'm worried I'll burn myself out early and make the whole experience miserable. I'm trying to stay very focused right now.

contempt prior to investigation

Laura came over on Wednesday and we made lasagna for lunch. I had written her an email explaining my position on some things between us after I upset her the other day. She is taking time for herself right now; I think she's doing the right thing and doing fine.

Neil was right

Airflow problems with my computer were causing it to overheat. Strangely, sealing it as tightly as I could has prevented it from randomly restarting again. Neil, you crazy bastard.

Laura had some computer problems at work and asked for help. While I was there she asked me if I would hypothetically feed her cat if she left town. I was an asshole and said 'no'. Why was I mean? Well, I'm always worried I'll kill someone's pet and they'll hate me for it. But she got pretty upset about it. Maybe I should rethink strategies that defeat their purposes.

Also, some part of me was like: "Hey! We aren't dating! You don't get to have all the perks of being with me!" Needless to say, I realize that's fairly juvenile and spiteful. I wish I hadn't been a jerk, been more of a friend, and said 'yes'.

girls wearing ties?

I had a lovely last visit on Sunday to Gina and Neil's apartment before they move to their new home next weekend. Don't lose that coffee table, guys! I'll still take it. My ass is a little numb from all the driving, but I'm glad to see them. It's so easy for me to lose friends just because I get lazy and give up trying to keep in touch over long distances. Doesn't everyone know to follow me around wherever I go in order to keep me company? I'll have to send them a copy of that memo...

Saturday night Josh and I went out with Nicole and a friend of her's to Gameworks at Easton, where they got sufficiently ripped and we played ski-ball until we had one metric assload of tickets with which we proceeded to buy very necessary items such as chinese fingercuffs, little green army men, water pistols, marbles, and highly nonaerodynamic foam airplanes.

staving off sleep

Kendra took a flight out of Columbus today. She drove from Cincinatti a few hours early so we could catch dinner and talk. It's always good to hang out with her. Also, I have her car for the weekend. Grocery shopping without the backache: hooray!

worse than piracy: vampiracy

I am utterly and all-encompassingly now into the Mountain Goats. Sometimes I hear an album for the first time and instantly know I am going to listen to it for the rest of my life. Such has it been with Nick Drake, Weezer, Lincoln, TMBG. It wasn't obvious with Radiohead, Pedro the Lion, or Soul Coughing. The Mountain Goats rock the corporeal plane in a big way for me and it just seems like they're a keeper.

I'm done for the quarter. It's spring break until March 28th. More running. I tend to listen to Pedro the Lion's song about wife-murder, 'Never Leave a Job Half Done', before I run. The sheer arrogance and self-satisfaction the singer emotes gets me so angry (and also it rocks)!

Have you heard the Mountain Goats?

I have to walk to the bus station. Doesn't that just suck zombie wang? I like running, I don't like walking; I have to walk with a bookbag full of stuff. I guess I'd better leave soon.

Amtrak travel idea

I had to make a Pedro the Lion CD for a friend out of only live and free tracks: a little fun since I had to go through over 100+ live mp3's I have and pick which versions I like best of a set of songs I think are representative of their work. This is what an editor does, I suppose.

It looks like OSU is paying for Fabrizio to visit me during my race weekend!

Also, another idea I've had is to get an Amtrak pass for a few weeks and tour the U.S. by rail. I'd have to be smart about food and sleeping, but I think it would be fun to visit John in Seattle, Kathy in Chicago, Caitlin in Atlanta, etc.

Money is a good thing, but you have to waste a lot of time making it.

Ride the Walrus!

I am rarely sick, so when it rolls around, I try not to collapse like a house of cards. I slept most of today when I wasn't at work; I drank a lot of water, and watched some tv. Nothing interesting.

I was watching CSPAN and it was a little heart-wrenching watching Sen. McCain try to get the head of the US Navy to care about the Geneva convention. For those of you who forgot, McCain was tortured in North Vietnam after they refused to recognize the Geneva convention in that conflict. He didn't mention it but it shone through everything. HERE'S a little something about his time in Vietnam.

GlaxoSmithKline is stealing your soul

I spent the evening with Laura. We were thrifty at the thrift store and ate greasy Chinese food. She got the new (expensivo) explodingdog anthology and we went through some of it together. We had been reading the comic together for a long time so we recognized some of what was collected in it. Yonalu (daughter of Mumbles the Cat) presided over all.

Josh wants to go to the Grand Canyon together for vacation. I was thinking Yosemite Yellowstone by myself. But if he's driving it might be more economical and less smelly than a bus. His girl Molly can rub me the wrong way sometimes even though I know he's crazy about her. But who can't get on someone else's nerves? I am afraid he'll want her to come, though. That might be too difficult.

I have to start figuring out the logistics. Definitely before Fabrizio gets here: we don't want him to be all by his lonesome. Although he did kind of get together with a girl in MILO. Hell, she knew he was coming to Columbus before I did!

Also, I'm sick for the first time in something like 16 months. All that running in snow pays off. No, it was probably that ass Colin at work. It messes up my schedule, unfortunately. I knew there was a reason to leave some breathing room (which I didn't).

many, many pizzas

and my arms hurt

I'm trying to figure out a way to afford going to Seattle to visit John over spring break. The cheapest flight I can find is $300...
