this shall keep me safe from the hot Mexican sun

US pop show victor attracts more votes than any president

Last week, with raw milk Laura got we made 1) butter 2) crème fraîche 3) mozzarella cheese. The ricotta cheese didn't work, though; we even tried using vinegar as a last resort to curdle what we had, but to no avail. I made a potato cream soup as well -- but it didn't turn out as spectacular as the above 3 items did.

I'm learning about coalgebras and coinduction this weekend. Everything makes more sense functorially.

I'm now reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

me for me

This Week in Landon entails: Regina Spektor's new album Begin To Hope. I don't know what food I'll make this week, exactly, but it will likely be Thai. When I was in Cincinnati two weeks ago, we stopped at the infamous Jungle Jim's to grocery shop and to see what all the hubbub was about. While we were there Laura and I picked up the primary components of some standard Thai dishes: fish sauce, lemongrass, Thai chilis, rice noodles, galanga, etc.

I was supposed to go to a party this evening but I stood it up for reading about boolean algebras instead.

metaphorical surfeit of salt

Where the hell is my salt shaker? Sometimes my roommate Fabrizio moves things to "teach me a lesson". If there are too many dirty dishes, he might make a towering edifice out of them to illustrate their number. Or if things are deemed in his way, he might move them to inconvenient places for me. You get the idea. Now the salt is gone. Was there somehow too much salt, metaphorically? My food now lives in a bland, desolate wasteland.

Yared has a layover in Columbus tomorrow night, so I'm meeting him at the airport to do a few hours of math before we fall asleep. Caffeine, don't fail me now!

The above photo displays the time from when the gun went off to start the race. Most people don't cross the starting line for a few minutes because there are so many people. Thankfully, it's all done electronically with timing chips, so no one has to figure all that stuff out.

I was fairly stressed out for the week before the race, but on race day itself everything went amazingly smoothly. Everything was perfect through mile 14. I got a bit tired around mile 15. My ankles kind of revolted around mile 18 and I slowed down. I never felt exhausted, just a lot of ankle and foot pain. I felt great when I was through, amazingly. I'm also confident I can shave 20 to 40 minutes off my time with no problem: now that I know I can run a marathon, I can seriously push myself without too much fear.

There's no way I could have done it without Kendra and Brandon in Cincinnati. They put Laura and me up in their house, drove us around everywhere, and cheered me on at several spots in the race. If I had had to get a hotel room and do everything myself like my first half-marathon, I'm not sure I would have been up for it. So thanks again Kendra and Brandon.

I'll post some more about the whole thing when I get some time this weekend, I think.
